Govt. urged to halt encroachment of KSC land (Nagaland Post 11-06-2013)

Past and present students, teachers and parents of Kohima Science College, Jotsoma have urged the state government to halt all private constructions in college campus and revoke all allotments made after 1990 as per the agreement between villagers and government of Nagaland.

In a joint representation submitted to the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, Kohima Science College (KSC) teachers’ association, KSC parents-teachers’ association, KSC alumni association and KSC students’ union said there were “unabated encroachment” of the college campus by private parties in total disregard of the standing agreement between the land donors and the state government.

The representation reminded that no land within the college campus was to be allotted to private parties/individuals with effect from 1990.

Stating that no stakeholders of the college would remain “passive” over the unacceptable destruction of an important asset of the Nagas, the associations recounted the contributions of KSC in the field of science education in the state including that of securing A-grade rating by National Assessment and Accreditation Council.

The associations argued that set against such a backdground, the college required land to provide ground for new physical infrastructure and ideal academic atmosphere.

“It is imperative to contain the cancer of land encroachment before it eats into the marrow of this vital supra-organism of the society”, said the representation laying emphasis on halting encroachment of KSC campus.
