Administration

Kohima Science College is anchored in the concept of science education. It was established in view of the growing aspirations of the Naga people for science education in the state through the initiative of some prominent citizens of Nagaland. This small group of men felt the need to bring about positive changes in our land which was lacking in many aspects.

To attain this they felt that science education be given priority as it would usher in technological development to augment the socio-economic condition of the people. The institute aims at initiating science education and to impress upon the students the need and importance of research. In this regard we realize that the college has a vast scope and role. We believe that the students are our best assets and we try our best to impart education to them worthy of emulation and relevant for the times and the times to come.

Principal: Dr. Lily Sema, M.Sc., Ph.D.

The Mission of The College is :-

1.  To offer an inter-disciplinary undergraduate program that will lead to multi-dimensional growth for the students and also open up career opportunities in a wide spectrum of areas.

2.  To help hone the skills of the students so that they use the knowledge base and attitude set acquired as responsible global citizens.

3.  To inculcate in the students the importance of reflective and analytical thinking.

5.  To help them become effective agents of social change.

It is our firm belief that these goals can become a reality only through hard work and industry as is reflected in our motto Omnia Vincit Labor … Labor overcomes everything.

QUALITY CONTROL

The principal chairs the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) which comprises the Vice Principal, Heads of Departments and other members. The cell plans and monitors measures to improve the quality of education. Some broad strategies of the cell are as follows.

Internal Assessment: Continuous assessment of the students is done by the college through the Weekly Test, assignments and projects. three weekly tests are conducted in each subject for all the classes during the academic year. Failure to pass in at least two of these will debar a student from taking the selection examination. the weekly test accounts for 30% and the selection examination marks for the remaining 70%. Honours students are internally assessed by their performance in assignments and seminars during the three-year degree course.

Mentoring Cells: Each teacher is assigned a number of students to form a Mentoring Cell. The teacher is charged with the responsibility to monitor the progress of his/her ward.

Attendance: A student is required to have at least 75% (NU) or 80% (NBSE) to be able to take the final NBSE or University Examinations. Attendance is strictly monitored by the college administration and a student is debarred from appearing the said examinations if the required norm is not attained. Also proxy attendance is a serious and punishable offence in the college.

GENERAL NORMS:

1. The uniform is compulsory for every student. The blazer & ties is worn on Friday and on any important occasion of the college. The T-shirt is worn on Tuesday. Students are expected to respect the college uniform and the crest, and also wear the uniform with matching/appropriate trousers/skirt and shoes. the college discourages wearing blazer and/or tie with slippers or floaters, and low-cut trousers/jeans.

2. each student must have a college Identity card and Library cards.
