START-UP INCUBATION HUBS- THE CONCEPT
With the intent to introduce entrepreneurship in the minds of students and to offer in-house earning opportunity especially to those from weak economic background, the first incubation hub was set up in the college in 2011 under the aegis of “Earn while you learn” scheme. Ever since then, new hubs in other fields have been established in recent years in order to increase the impact of the hubs and to cater to a greater number of students. Presently, three Incubation Hubs are operating in the college:
1. Printing Press
2. Technical Events Management (Sound & Lights)
3. Knowledge Services
Incubation Hub-1: Printing Press
Brief Profile
Objectives:
The hub focuses at helping those students from very humble financial background so that their earning here can supplement their need. Secondly, students who are keenly interested in the art of printing as a vocation are provided with opportunity to learn.
Infrastructure:
Basic printing equipments are in place to do small scale printing work. Digital printers, reprographic machines, PC, print lay out software, paper cutters, screen printing plates, lamination machine, etc are some of the equipments used.
Activities:
Currently the employed student learn the technical ‘know how’ of- handling of papers, paper cutting, reprography machine (Xeroxing), computer typing and editing, computer typed paging arrangement (through MS word, PageMaker etc.), screen printing, lamination, binding, T-Shirt and Mug Printing, etc.
KSCJ Printing Press also organises special workshops on screen printing and paper recycling.
Management:
The convener, with assistance of other faculty members and student workers, maintain and manage the facility. Advertisements are announced from time to time and whenever more manpower is required. Employment of students is in two modes: hirer basis and contract basis. The latter is for a minimum of 6 months, extendable for further period subject to satisfactory performance. Workers are paid in hourly basis and nature of work
Outcome: Some immediate benefits of this start-up incubation hub are:
- Students earn money through part-time work
- They learn the about the business of printing work
- The hub helps the college and students in general by providing affordable and quick service.
Special Note:
KSCJ Printing Press is the first incubation hub which was established way back in 2011. The college authority (later on by IQAC) gives charge to some selected teaching faculty members to manage the affairs of the printing press.

Incubation Hub-2: Technical Events Management (Sound& lights)
Brief Profile
Objectives:
To build capacity to manage Sound System and Lighting System for shows and live concerts and to create earning opportunity for students through rental of the systems, and also to use them for college functions and events.
Rationale:
Music is declared as an industry by the Govt. of Nagaland owing to which there is a substantial demand for technical know-how and physical infrastructure for managing musical and other performance arts events. This offers employment opportunity in show business in technical sector as entrepreneurs and technical crew.
Infrastructure:
A complete JBL sound system has been purchased during 2021. Also, an instrument set (one drums set, three guitars and one keyboard with matching amplifiers) have been added to the system. A music room has been created to facilitate practice and to store the equipments. In 2022, Lighting effects system has been installed in the auditorium. It includes Sixteen LED par cans, Smoke/fog machine and a DMX digital controller.
Activities:
The systems, or parts of them, are given out for rental at different rates and manned by the students (technical crew) who are trained beforehand. New students are recruited from time to time so as to maintain an unbroken chain of transmission of technical- knowledge who in turn pass on the expertise to succeeding new recruits through a cyclical relay.
Outcome:
Some immediate benefits of this start-up incubation hub are:
- Crew members (students) are paid a lump sum after the end of an event
- Students gain a Hands-on experience of managing shows as well as the earning potential of technical sector of show business.
- The college makes a considerable saving by using the in-house systems of Sound and lighting effects for its events as hiring these systems constitutes a major chunk of events budget.
Special Note:
The Sound system was purchased with student’s money that remained unused during the two-year pandemic.
